This web site provides the most comprehensive collection of photographs of graffiti and street art in Brighton and Hove you will find anywhere.
It is interesting to see how the graffiti has changed over time, and to see if some has managed to stand the test of time. So this site offers a series of snapshots of graffiti between 2012 to 2025, in five different ‘year’ galleries: 2012, 2015, 2018, 2021 and 2025. The number of photos in each gallery increases as we move to 2025. For 2012 there are just 68 images, for 2018, this increased to 326 images, and for 2025, there are well over 1,100. These are huge galleries to explore!
Graffiti is ephemeral; it is frequently painted over and can sometimes last only a short time after being painted. An example of this in the 2025 gallery are images 2025-101 and 2025- 1161 of art in Ann Street. I photographed the former on 15th January 2025 and the latter four just weeks later, on 12th February 2025, as the art had been replaced.
The graffiti and street art includes work by many well-known artists, amongst them: Guy Favela, Mick Mowgli, Sprite, Glimmertwin32, Snub23, Graffix Art, Molar, Minty, Sinna, MazCan, Cassette Lord, User, and more recently, Horace who has a lot of interesting art in Worthing. I know that I have omitted many names.
I have avoided photographing simple one-colour tags unless there is a large interesting group: in my view these simple tags are a bit of a nuisance and usually degrade the art they have defaced. They also don’t look nice enough to photograph. An example of how awful these tags can be can be seen in the 2025 gallery, images 2025-1130 to 2025-1165: this is the Lewes Road Underpass which was a recent community art project but now covered in tags.
For 2025, I have changed the file numbering system so that file name also contains the street/road in which the work was found. This means anyone visiting Brighton to see the graffiti can preview what is around and where it might found (it may, of course, have disappeared by now!).
Also included are some ‘miscelleneous’ galleries: Hong Kong trams, French graffiti on WW2 bunkers, and some graffiti from Ibiza.
HAPPY VIEWING!
